The reason for the forced password reset, writes Heim, is the discovery of “an old set of Dropbox user credentials (email addresses plus hashed and salted passwords) that we believe was obtained in 2012.” In a company blog post published on Thursday, Dropbox head of security Patrick Heim said the company will be automatically resetting the passwords for anyone who signed up for the cloud storage service before mid-2012 and hasn’t changed their password since.
